How does the Tesla Powerwall 2 work?

By adding to an existing solar power system or brand new system, the Tesla Powerwall charges itself with any excess solar power not used by the household.

Each battery can hold 13.5kWh of power with the ability to stack up to 10 units to increase your load to 135kWh of storage.

Tesla Powerwalls also have:

  • backup functionality – no fridge mishaps
  • online monitoring portal or app to monitor charge status

Staying true to the legacy of Tesla, the Powerwall 2 also requires no maintenance and updates its software and firmware on its own, straight from Tesla.

It also comes with a ten year warranty for peace of mind. You’ll be covered for ten years of daily cycling or 3,650 cycles, whichever comes first.

How much will I save?

The Tesla 2 Powerwall will save you money on your energy bills by reducing your power usage from the power grid.

If your battery is full, it will also send any unused solar power back to the grid for you to get a feed-in-tariff or credit from your energy retailer.

Tesla is now offering a $750 rebate upon installation, reducing your up front investment.

Why choose a Tesla Powerwall?

We’re big believers in solar power and you can also become an independent, green energy household by dramatically reducing or eliminating your power drawing from the grid.

With a Tesla Powerwall you can maximise your battery storage capacity. You can also recycle any powerwalls at end of life with Tesla via its GigaFactory.

If you live in a multi-storey residential flat or apartment building, where a dwelling sits vertically above another dwelling, you may need council approval to install Powerwall. Enquire with your local council prior to purchasing. It is also recommended you seek written approval from your body corporate and/or building manager for the installation prior to agreeing to purchase a system.

Can I access the rebate more than once?2020-06-04T04:51:36+00:00

Will I lose my feed-in tariff on my existing solar system?2020-06-04T04:49:38+00:00

When adding any battery to an existing solar system there may be an impact on your existing solar feed-in tariff. If you have an existing solar system and receive a legacy solar feed-in-tariff, you will no longer be eligible to receive feed-in credits if the capacity of your solar system is increased or a battery system is installed. Your eligibility to receive feed-in credits will cease from the date of your application for approval to connect the home battery system is submitted to Solar Victoria.
You may wish to speak with your energy retailer to better understand how adding a new battery may affect your current feed-in tariff.

The rebate is taken off the cost of Powerwall and given to Tesla once the system is installed.
